How to reset a automatic car starter?
The past week every time I pressed the start button on my automatic starter the car started and stopped three times and in the end my anti-theft light came on and I had to wait 10 minutes before I could manually start the car (putting the key in and starting it). My battery was dying and I currently changed it. I found at that once the battery is weak the starter stops working and even if you change the battery it does not work, I was told I have to reset the automatic starter. How do you do that. I have a 97 grand am 3.1L. Don't know if the car makes a difference. How to reset a automatic car starter? To reset your remote...
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward all the way just before cranking. Then within 5 seconds, press and hold in the valet/overide button, until the installed LED (the blinking light) in your dash area goes on solid, and the siren chirps once.
This should reset the system, and resetthe grounded relay on the starter wire, allowing you to start the engine. At this point, the only thing working would be the keyless entry from the alarm, if it came equipped that way.
Just Repeat these steps to place it back to usable armed mode. You may get 2 chirps, confirming it, and the lights may flash twice as well.
If the battery is dead, nothing in the car works. If it was your battery your lights would be dimming, but if you can hear it crank but wouldn't start before changing your battery, then it was your starter to begin with. You cannot reset the actual starter, you misunderstood them, they were probably telling you to reset the remote starter. How to reset a automatic car starter?you dont reset the battery or anything else that sounds dumb.read all of this.http://vats.likeabigdog.com/
use this link. it might help, although i think you have a different problem

Car takes few extra seconds to start when trying to start?
This past week has been cold here and for the first time yesterday I noticed that my car took few extra seconds when trying to start. Not sure if this is because of the cold weather and related to battery. All of last year, even in more cold weather I never had a problem. It always started right away.
Does this mean the battery is getting old and I need to get it replaced? OR is it normal during cold weather and will it go away once the weather gets better? If it is the batter, how much do these batteries cost and how often should I be replacing them. This has car has been running with this battery for nearly 2 years with no problem since I got it. Not sure when the previous owner changed the battery before that.
I also posted a question just now on Low Oil Pressure indicator flashing since yesterday when I start the car. Not sure if this starting issue and that low oil pressure indicator issue is related. Both issues started showing at the same time yesterday morning when I started the car.Car takes few extra seconds to start when trying to start?cold weather can cause slow starting so can a weak battery, and so can the low oil pressure switch. the engine protects itself if there is no oil pressure and keeps it from startingCar takes few extra seconds to start when trying to start? What kind of car?

Mileage?Car takes few extra seconds to start when trying to start?you might want to get the battery tested. it takes more juice to start a car in the cold then the summer. also what about your oil? is it thick and black? if it is then get it changed. thick oil your car will turn over slower.

How do i change the fuel filter on a 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis?
My car cut off on me and isn't starting, i try to crank it and it sounds like its out of gas....but it has a half tank of gas in it, i was told it is probably the fuel filter....the car has a new battery, and alternator is good,How do i change the fuel filter on a 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis?I did it on my Maxima 92, and it was easy.. just look up for the filter. It's usually behind the motor, near the windshield. Once you know where it is, disconect the hose from both sides of the filter with a screwdriver and place the new one. tight them well, but not overtightened.
-(The filter has an out and an intake flow, make sure you don't reverse those when placing the new one).
-(The hose will have a certain gasoline pressure if your car uses a gas pump, so be careful with your eyes).
-(When you have the old one out, blow through it from the same way gasoline flows and see if it's blocked. Blow the new one too so you can see the difference. If the old one was kind of blocked or dirty, but it wasn't the problem of your car, at least you replaced a not so good filter).
Nobody warranties that's gonna be problem.
But if you wanna go ahead and do it I wish you good luck. How do i change the fuel filter on a 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis?Q- follow the fuel lines from the tank it will take you to the filter, but, do you have a mechanical pump or an electric pump? if you have an electric one have some one get in and turn the key into the run position, the spot the key goes back to after you start the car. open the fuel tank, like your putting gas in, and listen for a low volume whine. if that is present then find the filter, if it's not present then replace the fuel pump. How do i change the fuel filter on a 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis?type into searchbox
