I changed my car battery last year. But in this winter, the battery keeps being drained. I had the people from whom I bought the battery from checked it. they said somewhere is draining the battery.
Now I had the battery checked by a service dealer. They said one of the cells in the battery is bad.
How can I tell who is telling the truth? Is there a way I myself can check the battery? How to tell a cell in the battery is good or not?
BTW, I think I am pretty technical oriented and like to buy some small tools to do it.

I am going to change my car battery, however, I bought the battery new from the store and it has a plasticcovering which I can't get off as well as a plastic handle over it. How the heck do I take these off so I can replace the car battery?
Also...I have a 2002 Chrysler Sebring, meaning I can't access the battery from the hood. I have to take off my left front wheel and am I supposed to just rip the fasteners out? They are in there pretty tight.

Make sure that you have the car securely supported (not on the jack alone) before you start to work under the car.

To open it, i figured out that i had to pull a little lever inside, and then pull a lever on the hood itself while i was opening it.
I tried to just close it but its stuck in that position like it was when i had only pulled the lever on the inside, its loose but its locked at the same time.

First open it back up and make sure nothing is in the way of it closing.. If there is nothing in the way then go inside the car and make sure the lever in side is all the way back in sometimes they get stuck in the open position.

My wife drives a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer ES. Yesterday she drove the car to the store and it worked fine, but when she came out to drive home, the car wasn't getting any power. No dummy lights, no chimes, nothing. I took the battery to walmart and they they said it was fine. I bought a terminal brush and i scrubbed both battery posts and cables clean.

so, what you can do, is connect another battery, using jump leads from your friends car, (it doesnt need to be running) undo your terminals, and remove them from teh battery ,the jump leads will make the car think its still got a battery attached... (cars are a bit simple like that) replace teh battery, do up the clamps and remove the jump leads..job a good un. and it doesnt cost anything..
two words of caution; observe polatrity, red (positive) to RED, Black, to black..and it may only be 12volts, but a fresh battery has around 2-300 amps.. so much power, shorted to earth, because your jump leads touch accidentally...big flash, leading to bonfires so be careful. and good luckI need to change my car battery. Do you have to disconnect battery to change car stereo?
I have a honda accord 94, which is pretty old, and i bought a new stereo(because old one broke down).
And as i read through the instruction for the installation,
it told me to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery,
i tried to do it, but the screws are so rusted that i couldn't get it off,
i tried hot water and cola.
To further describe how rusted it is, i could say the screw's end, which is supposed to be octagon(?), lost its shape, part to my struggle to get that thing off.
So...... the introduction was kinda long, i want to know if i could

i tried to do it, but the screws are so rusted that i couldn't get it off,
i tried hot water and cola.
To further describe how rusted it is, i could say the screw's end, which is supposed to be octagon(?), lost its shape, part to my struggle to get that thing off.

The best place to purchase a battery is Sam's Club or Wal Mart. They sell a good battery and they a very reasonable. They will even install it for you. All you need to remember is to get a battery in your series with the same cold cranking amps. I have found the folks at Sam's Club to be the most helpful.

I bought the battery and tried to replace it but then I got stuck.
As far as I know, it's not hard at all to replace a battery. unscrew the clamp on top that holds the battery down. Unplug negative side first then the positive side. Then unplug the ventilation hose that goes into my battery. Then the battery should come out. Well, the battery isn't budging. When i lift as hard as i can, the car lifts with it.

He also says that that is the dealer trying to get more money off of you. If your battery goes out, go to ur local autozone and they will check the battery for free. If you still have concerns, I would take it to autozone and have it checked for free. They will tell you exactly what it needs by pluging a machine to ur battery. You can either leave it in the car and drive it over there or u can take the battery out of ur car and take the battery to them. They will check it on or out of the car.

While you have the battery out, you may want to take a stiff brush and brush the white/green corrosion off the cable ends.
Make sure you have the new battery facing the same way that the old one was. You don't want the wrong cable on the post!
Then reconnect the battery cables in the reverse order (positive - red first, then negative - black).
If there were any screws near the bottom of the battery, make sure you replace those.
