Are they trying to rip me off?

last friday i had my change oil..few minutes later the manager called me...he told me that i need to change my car battery and change this and change that(something from the engine)..blah blah blah.....

but my car is ONLY 3yrs very low millage(21,900)...

then, when i told him to write down whatever diagnosis he found in a piece of paper....instead of writing it down he told me he will just put it on my file so in the future i have on my record.

his he just trying sale me something??

how many yrs do i have to change battery???Are they trying to rip me off?It sounds like you went to one of the %26quot;quick change%26quot; oil change places. They push low price oil changes to get you in to sell filters, batteries and sometimes brakes at a steep price.

Normal life for an OEM battery is anywhere from 3 to 7 years.

Most auto parts stores will load test your battery for free with a computerized tester that will give a good / bad diagnosis and most will give the actual Cold Cranking Amps that the battery is currently producing.

Care should be taken to not run a battery once it tests bad on a computerized tester, because a failing battery will often ruin an alternator and vice versa.

I recommend steering clear of the %26quot;quick change%26quot; places and take the car to an actual mechanic. You will pay a little more but will get the eyes of a trained professional on your vehicle. Are they trying to rip me off?Go somewhere else for your oil change next time. Sounds like they are hoping for extra money from an unsuspecting customer. Are they trying to rip me off?He is trying to screw you - Stay far, far away from that shop.

No need to change a battery if nothing is wrong with it and they do not test batteries as a normal part of an oil change.

Also, since he would not give you a list, that is a major red-flag because he knows you will take it to someone you trust and they will tell you he is full of shyt....

Almost all oil change places will try to sell you extras - but most don't lie as blatantly as this guy did to you.Are they trying to rip me off?yup most likely trying to rip you off if you don't see anything wrong with the car when u drive nothing to worry about then. Are they trying to rip me off?It is not uncommon for you to have to change a battery every three years. However look in your owners manual and don't do any repairs that are not recommended in that book. Many people do what they tell them out of fear of not taking car of there vehicle. The manufacture will back you up 100 percent if you have a problem and you follow the maintenance guide in the owners manual. The reason he said he will put it on file is to cover his back (if you had a problem) with your Battery
