Help, I changed battery for remote on my Rover 420 and now it doesn't work?

I don't know what's going on with the remote for my Rover 420. My remote for the central locking would only work if I held it close to the door, and then it was getting worse where I had to click it loads of times before it would lock and the beeping would stop, to turn off the immobiliser. I can't drive it unless it's locked and then unlocked with the remote, as if I don't it beeps and it doesn't start.

I went to a car parts shop to get a battery, and they said that they wouldn't fit it for me as with Rover, you have to look in the book you get with the car to do it a certain way.

As I was worried I would do it wrong, I went into the garage around the corner and asked them if they knew how to fit the battery so it would work, and a young lad put in the battery and then said he didn't know what to do once the battery was in, but luckily I still had the key turned so I didn't have to start the immobiliser again.

I got home and and removed the key from the ignition, and then read the book about how to fit the battery, so I took it out and put it back in again. I got out the car and locked it with the key in the door, and left it a few mins. The book said to unlock it with the key in the door, then press the lock button a few times to synchronise it, so I did that and nothing happens.

What am I supposed to do now? Shall I take it to a garage that specialise in Rover?

Who do I need to phone to get the number so I can over ride the immobiliser so I can drive it until I have the remote sorted?

I put the battery in correct with the facing out. Help, I changed battery for remote on my Rover 420 and now it doesn't work? Procedure.

1. Unlock the drivers door using the key.

2. Ensure all doors, bonnet and boot are shut, and if Central Locking is

fitted, make sure both front doors are unlocked.

3. Press the PLIP key (Lock button) four times quickly, until the vehicle

locks are enabled.

ENGINE IMMOBILISATION

The engine immobiliser is set as soon as the Perimetric alarm is enabled,

which inhibits the engine electrical circuits. Immobilization can only be removed

using the PLIP key or the emergency access code (EKA). If the car

is not locked using the PLIP key, the immobiliser will be activated 20 seconds

after the ignition is switched off, and the drivers door opened. The

engine can be re-immobilized by pressing the unlock button on the PLIP

key.

I had same problem with a volvo - new battery and couldn't get radio etc.

I read book, found I needed the EKA code so I phoned the place where volvo was bought, they put in my reg no into a computer, and came up with the code for my car.

I put code in (see your book if you need to do this) - and, hey presto! I was back in business!
